Many international organizations consider research to be an end in itself. At PSI, research is a prelude to action. PSI research produces evidence that, when used by decision makers, results in bottom-line health impact. It communicates to our stakeholders what we have done and what we intend to do.
PSI Romania is dedicated to deliver evidence-based social marketing programs. This translates into a keen and active orientation towards a disciplined and strategic approach to social marketing, which requires the systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and use of data to guide the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programmatic activities.
The research process is based on the “backwards” research approach in which research outputs are designed and pre-tested first in terms of whether the recommendations that result from them are useful in the social marketing process before studies are designed and data collected. Using the backwards research process, the PSI Dashboard is designed to specifically produce recommendations for segmentation (of the target population), monitoring, and evaluation.
PSI Romania works with the PSI Regional Research Advisor for Eastern Europe, Varja Lipovsek, PhD, and with our local partner, Mercury Research – an independent research agency, to conduct world class quality studies.
In the course of the last four years PSI Romania conducted several studies to either provide baseline or formative input for its programs or to evaluate their effectiveness. All areas of our work were covered: reproductive health, HIV/AIDS (MSM, Roma, Youth), and IDD.
